Our next Parent Café sessions start April 4!
Don’t miss this great opportunity to connect with other parents from all different backgrounds. See our flyer for more information or contact Erica at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Matthews House Parent Cafés focus on strengthening families and building community. We have foster families, kinship families and biological families attending Parent Cafés. During cafés we come together and, as we share our stories, realize we’re not alone in our struggles. The Matthews House uses the Be Strong Families model and implements the Five Protective Factors to make families and communities more resilient. Parent Cafés are a safe and fun environment where families can connect.
The Matthews House Chosen by Three Local Staples Associates to Receive $3,500 Grant
Fort Collins, CO – The Matthews House has been awarded $3,500 by Staples Foundation, the private charitable arm of Staples, Inc., under a program that lets Staples associates direct donations.
The funding will be used to help launch the pilot run of a new workforce development program offered by The Matthews House Education and Employment Center (EEC). The four-year program, SkillzNext, focuses on placing youth aged 16-24 in skilled trades apprenticeships with local employers. SkillzNext participants will work full time as an apprentice, attend weekly trade school instruction, and meet with an EEC Career Path Facilitator and mentor regularly throughout their comprehensive program.
This grant is part of a philanthropic initiative created by Staples Foundation which allows Staples associates around the world to direct funding to non-profit organizations that are focused on education or job skills. The program, called 2 Million and Change, encourages local community engagement by awarding larger grants to organizations where associates are highly engaged in volunteering or fundraising – up to $25,000 per organization.
The Matthews House is a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers young adults and families in transition to navigate difficulties on the road to self-sufficiency. With their recent addition of the Education and Employment Center’s vocational training and career pathway services, The Matthews House has increased their dual generational impact on poverty as they serve the education and employment needs of participants.
