What is The Matthews House?

The Matthews House is a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers young adults and families in transition to navigate difficulties on the road to self-sufficiency. Many of the individuals in our program are or have been part of the human services, foster care, and/or justice system. Many have also lived in generational poverty.

They frequently do not have a significant support system nor the skills necessary for living independently, including retaining a job, solving problems, managing money and building solid relationships; many will re-enter the justice or human service systems.

What is the mission?

Our mission is to empower youth and families by building trusting relationships and providing resources to disrupt the cycles of poverty and abuse.

How does The Matthews House work?

The Matthews House focuses on five main areas to help these youth and families develop the skills and knowledge to move into and maintain an independent living situation.  These areas are:

  1. Safe and Affordable Housing,
  2. Physical & Mental Health,
  3. Employment,
  4. Education, and
  5. Independent Living & Social Skills.

In addition to these skills, clients are surrounded with a community of support, including an adult mentor or family coach.

Who supports The Matthews House?

The Matthews House receives private donations as well as local, county and state grants. Funding is also received through contracts with county and state agencies. The Matthews House also holds three major fund raisers throughout the year.
